As part of the strategic planning process, the credit union team took the opportunity to re-affirm our core values of accountability, caring, integrity, social responsibility, fairness and transparency.
Accountability means we are answerable to our members and the community. It means more than just reporting back to members at the AGM however, and this plan will help us to be more accountable to members by improving our connection with them and providing more opportunities for member feedback.
At Capital Credit Union we are answerable to our members and the community. It means more than just reporting back to members at the AGM however, and this plan will help us to be more accountable to members by improving our connection with them and providing more opportunities for member feedback.
We focus on people, not profit. It means taking the member’s individual situation and circumstances into account, not just the figures on the application form. It means understanding members’ needs and responding to them by developing the products and services that members want and not just the ones that are easy for us to deliver.
Integrity is about being honest and truthful in all our dealings, be they with members, suppliers, volunteers or staff. It also means ensuring that the actions we take are in the members’ best interests.
This means doing the right thing by members, for example through responsible lending practices. Responsible lending may lead us to grant a loan that other lenders might refuse because we can see the loan will help the member. But it could equally lead us to refuse a loan that a less responsible lender might grant, because we can see that the loan might put that member into a more difficult situation.
This means treating all members equally well, for example by affording equal access to a range of loan products, at a fair price, for all members. It also means protecting members’ savings equally carefully, for example by using credit reference information to protect against bad lending.
This means that everything we do is in the public eye and must therefore be fit to be seen. It means we embrace fair regulation, recognising that this helps build trust in the safety and soundness of the credit union.
Capital Credit Union offers its members a range of services.
