Capital Credit Union WELCOMES our Drimnagh members
A CAPITAL Move and a New Beginning
October 31st 2017 was a big day for Drimnagh Credit Union, as it officially became part of Capital Credit Union. The Drimnagh office is now one of six Capital Credit Union offices across Dublin, and all members of Drimnagh Credit Union are now automatically members of Capital Credit Union.
As Capital Credit Union members, the people in Drimnagh can now enjoy enhanced online services and mobile app facilities. They can also enjoy competitive interest rates and make loan repayments using direct debits from their bank accounts.
Credit Unions have a long and proud history in Ireland.
Drimnagh Credit Union was formed in 1962 by local people who were dedicated to their community and to improving its financial well-being.
As a co-operative movement, credit unions have grown to play a central role in Irish society. They have enabled ordinary people to gain access to credit that otherwise may have been denied to them, especially during recessionary times.
For many people, the credit union has been a lifesaver, seeing them through challenging times and enabling them to improve their futures. Then as now, credit union loans were used for a variety of purposes, including home improvements, education, cars, Christmas, even the World Cup (but not this year unfortunately!)
Credit Unions “Together Stronger”
Today, credit unions across the country face many challenges, but are learning to adapt by tackling them together. To operate to the highest standards, credit unions need highly trained staff, robust IT systems and modern relevant services.
Many credit unions have addressed these challenges through co-operation and by seeking strength in joining with other credit unions. The boards of Drimnagh and Capital have worked hard together to bring about the merger of both credit unions, in the interests of all members.
The Drimnagh office will continue to serve and support the local community
As part of Capital Credit Union, the Drimnagh office will continue to serve its local members, as before. It will continue to help local people avoid money lenders and provide reasonable loans that can be repaid through deductions from social welfare payments.
Capital Credit Union’s community commitment is well established through sponsorship of local events, clubs and groups. Now that Drimnagh is part of Capital Credit Union, this support for the community will be even greater, including improved opening hours coming soon.
