Member Stories Around the Community – Pearse College
Supporting the community is a huge priority at Capital Credit Union and every year we contribute towards any groups from sports teams, charity groups to schools and various other community backed projects. This is why we are delighted to launch our member stories which is a compilation of our most recent sponsorships along with a story on the group and how the sponsorship helped their project. Here we talk with the assistant principal from Pearse College.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved in your organisation?
As a teacher, an Assistant Principal and now as VTOS co-ordinator here in Pearse College I have seen students struggle against the odds and succeed. I have seen how education can make a real difference in the lives of many of our learners.
What does your group or team do on a day-to-day basis?
Pearse College has been a provider of education in the Crumlin area for over 50 years. We are a College of Further Education and our learners come from a diverse range of backgrounds and socio-economic groups. Learners can progress through Levels 4/5/6 on the QQI Framework. We also provide other student supports e.g. Guidance and Counselling, Library Facilities, Book Rental Scheme etc.
What does this sponsorship mean to your group and what will it allow you do?
This sponsorship is invaluable to us at this time as we have to convert most of our delivery on-line. It means we can provide tablets to some of our most disadvantaged students allowing them to continue their studies without feeling marginalised.
Why did you think of applying to Capital Credit Union?
We heard that the Credit Union had a fund that we could apply for as we are in the same catchment area. We knew that we could put any money provided to valuable use.
What are your hopes for your group/team going forward?
We are passionate about what we do here in Pearse College and we want to continue to provide excellent opportunities for all our learners in an inclusive manner. For many of our learners their experience here allows them to gain employment or access third level education thereby improving their lives and those of their families.
