SEC Blog 2: Our Community Charter

As part of becoming a Sustainable Energy Community (SEC), we have created a Community Charter which outlines our vision for our SEC.

The recent Government announcement on the new grants available for retrofits is another example of the shift towards a greener society and Capital Credit Union wants to play a leading role in making this happen for our community.

What Is Our Vision?

Capital Credit Union’s vision is to champion sustainable energy in our catchment area by providing our members with the tools needed to realise their climate action ambitions and lead a cooperative where everyone works together towards a sustainable lifestyle.

How Will We Do This?

We will do this through an in-depth analysis of our community to identify areas of energy deficiency as part of our Energy Master Plan. To assist us with this, we have circulated a survey to our members to help us gather the information that will provide the bedrock of this report.

Following on from this we will use our previous experience in the ProEnergy Homes Scheme to provide members with assistance with their green renovations, partner with trusted local contractors to complete works and provide low-cost finance to our members where needed. We have a suite of Green Loans available with rates as low as 5.9% APR!

In addition to this, we will undertake a campaign of engagement and education with our members to promote actions that lead to better, more efficient energy choices. As part of this holistic approach, we will give back to the community by sponsoring and supporting green projects/activities that arise in our catchment area throughout any given year. See our Going Green grant for more information on how this is already happening.

Working With Our Community

As a local, financial co-operative Capital Credit Union will continue to expand on our current links with the community to enhance the subject of sustainability and climate action.

We will work with local residents’ groups, schools, businesses, community groups, higher education centres, the County Council and all other groups who are based in our catchment area. We want to work together with all these groups, so our community, South Dublin, becomes a leader in smart, efficient, and reliable energy.
